This article reviews the development of “brain-computing interfaces,” or BCIs, which connect the brain to digital technology, including the pioneering work from Dr. Jonathan Wolpaw’s laboratory that demonstrated one of the first brain computer interfaces that let people move computer cursors from the center of a computer screen to the edges based on the analysis of the electrical signals from their brains (i.e., electroencephalography, or EEG).
